Planning your wedding involves a great deal of decision making. There’s the ceremony and the dress. The attendants and guests. The music and the cake. Arggh! Suddenly you feel overwhelmed with questions and choices, and you still have one of the most important decisions to make… where to go on your honeymoon! How do you choose the perfect spot for you and your spouse to start your new life together?
Help is here! For the last 11 years, Modern Bride magazine has conducted a survey of 6,000 of the nation’s top travel agents. They were asked to pick their favorite honeymoon destinations based on such things as most luxurious hotels and resorts, romance, seclusion, affordability, adventure, nightlife, food and culture. Their top five picks for 2007 are below.
Mexico
Starting off the top five for 2007 is sunny Mexico. Classified as one of the most affordable locations, Mexico has miles of scenic beaches. Check out the snorkeling, horseback riding or bungee jumping if you’re adventurous. If you’re looking for something more relaxing, Mexico is filled with interesting ruins, museums and art galleries that reveal its culture. From Cozumel to Cancun and beyond, there are lots of choices for exciting honeymoon destinations in Mexico.
Costa Rica
Located in Central America, Costa Rica moved up from number ten to number four in this year’s survey. Famous for its white- and black-sand beaches and remarkable sunsets, this honeymoon destination is recognized for its dramatic volcanoes, lush rainforests and splendid waterfalls. With 20 national parks, Costa Rica offers a delightful variety of wildlife… including lots of baby turtles. Whether you love the sea, the sand or just each other, Costa Rica is an exceptional destination for your honeymoon.
Tahiti
Number three in the survey is a tiny slice of the South Pacific… Tahiti. But don’t let its size fool you. Tahiti is big on romance! With secluded, pristine beaches, Tahiti is known as “the isle of love.” Spend your days in the sun and surf then dance ’til dawn at one of the many nightclubs on the island. With year-round warm temperatures, any time of year is the perfect time for a honeymoon on the intimate island of Tahiti.
Hawaii
In the number two spot is Hawaii – known worldwide for its breathtaking beaches. The white sand, crystal-clear water and tropical climate make this collection of exotic islands hard to resist. Looking for excitement? From the active volcanoes of the Big Island to the history of Pearl Harbor on Oahu and the lush jungles of Kauai, you’ll find it hard to choose. But then again, why should you? With helicopter transports or cruise ships, you can visit all the islands during your stay. Snorkeling, surfing, exploring ancient temples and authentic luaus give you plenty to do. No wonder this paradise always ranks high in the favorite honeymoon survey.
Italy
Beating the long-standing, 10-year champion of honeymoons – Hawaii – this year Italy is the first choice in honeymoon destinations. Just the mention of this country brings thoughts of romance as you imagine the two of you on a romantic gondola ride on the Grand Canal. The Vatican, the Basilica of St. Peter and the Sistine Chapel are just a few of the awe-inspiring sights on your must-see list. Not only is there much to see, there’s also a cornucopia of magnificent wine and cuisine to experience. With its romance, history and gourmet food, Italy is a great choice.
Unique Wedding Favors Create a Theme
Once you’ve made your honeymoon decision, have some fun with it. Unique wedding favors that reflect your choice are widely available. Consider bottle stoppers or wine charms if you’re headed to Italy. If your choice is one of the many beaches around the world; key chains, mint tins or candles decorated with shells or a nautical themes would work wonderfully. Try personalized bags of coffee if you’re off to Mexico or Kona, Hawaii. With unique wedding favors you can create a themed reception while offering your guests a small glimpse into your honeymoon plans.
