From one end of the world to another, there’s no destination like Greece for a romantic, Mediterranean honeymoon. Time and time again, Santorini, Mykonos, Rhodes, Crete, and other Aegean islands are rated as the best honeymoon destinations.
If you’re looking for a few ideas for a true luxury Greek honeymoon, have we got some ideas for you!
Top 5 Greek honeymoon destinations
Santorini was created as the result of an enormous volcanic explosion that took place almost four thousand years ago. Today, the island is known as one of the best honeymoon destinations in the world because of its picturesque sunsets, white washed buildings, and quaint villages are easy to fall in love with.
Mykonos is an island full of life, colour, vibrancy, small cafes, restaurants, art galleries, and boutique shops. It has all the character and architecture of the Greek islands with a rich, cultural cosmopolitan feel. Be sure to visit the 16th century windmills, nearby Little Venice, and of course – the beaches. Hotel Cavo Tagoo is a small, upscale beachfront boutique hotel within walking distance of Mykonos Town and offers traditional Greek design with sleek contemporary lines and a sexy infinity pool overlooking the sea – a true honeymoon destination.
Rhodes is one of the largest of the Greek islands and also one of the most dynamic in terms of attractions and offerings for travellers: beaches, ancient archaeology sites like Lindos, medieval settlements, traditional villages, and castles. With over 300 days of sunshine per year, the island named the “Island of Roses” is an incredible Greek honeymoon destination. Located near Lindos, the Atrium Palace Thalasso Spa Resort offers romantic luxury honeymoons where guests can relax overlooking the secluded bay of Kalathos or enjoy a stimulating spa session at the resort’s Anagenesis Thalasso Spa. Crete is the largest of Greek islands with all kinds of terrain: from mountains to hillside pastures, remote farmlands, olive oil, coastal settlements, and of course, lots of beach real estate. The main highlights of the island include Chania, a bustling portside city with colourful shops and incredible seafood restaurants for a truly romantic dinner; Heraklion and the ancient archaeological palace of Knossos; the beaches of Ierapetra; and the popular Malia for British travellers.
Sifnos is one of the more little-known Greek islands but was best known in ancient times for its silver and gold mines. The island is easily reached by ferry from Athens and is a great spot for honeymooners because it is relatively quiet, less busy than other Greek islands, and a place to really relax and getaway from the busyness of life. Today, those looking for beaches stick to the Bay of Vathi, a rare quiet beach in the Cyclades. Those interested in history will enjoy Kasto, a well-preserved medieval town with ancient columns that seems like a living museum all its own.

Deciding the destination of your honeymoon can be exciting but tricky too. It’s meant to be the once-in-a-lifetime holiday that you’ll never forget. But when the world’s your oyster, where do you start? To compare long-haul to short-haul as a starter, we’re looking at Italy and Thailand.
Honeymoon in Italy
If you’re getting married in the British summer, a honeymoon in a hot European destination is a good choice if you want to avoid long flights and tiring jet lag. Italy is a popular romantic destination for honeymoons, with many luxury hotels in a variety of places – be it rolling hills or lake-side hot-spots. The fashionable Amalfi Coast is a top choice in Italy for its spectacular coastlines, rugged cliffs, cascades of brightly coloured houses, lemon groves and olive trees on terraced hillsides, all tumbling down to an aquamarine sea.
In the coastal town of Positano, luxurious Hotel Caruso sits 365m above sea level with some spectacular views over the Sorrento Peninsular. Other romantic hideaways in Italy include Villa Spalletti Trivelli in Rome, JK Place in Florence or Villa La Massa in Tuscany.
And then there’s Venice in Italy, the city of love on water. Romance is a-plenty here, and it’s worth combining a honeymoon visit here with a journey across the water to the bright blue waters of Croatia. An itinerary for Italy and Croatia like this can be perfect for a honeymoon that’s eventful from beginning to end.
The leading tour operators for a honeymoon in Italy include: Cognoscenti, Citalia, Sovereign and Scott Dunn.
Honeymoon in Thailand
If you want to venture a little further for your honeymoon, why not elope to Thailand for love in the Far East. A popular honeymoon retreat in Thailand is the Six Senses Yao Noi. Situated on a small island in Phang Nga Bay, Six Senses Yao Noi boasts 56 villas, each with its own private infinity edge pools and open-air bathrooms for the ultimate in romantic luxury.
Upmarket tour operator Scott Dunn is offering 2 complimentary nights with every 5 nights for all their bookings at Six Senses Yao Noi. However, if lying on the beach in Thailand doesn’t tempt you for your honeymoon, why not ride elephants at Anantara Golden Triangle in Chiang Rai followed by a stay at The Peninsula Bangkok for a spot of shopping.
Other leading tour operators for a honeymoon in Thailand include: Abercrombie & Kent, Bales Worldwide and Kuoni.
Whether it’s Italy or Thailand, or in fact neither, there are some fantastic companies who can organise the ideal honeymoon for you from start to finish. Luxury Trips and Best at Honeymoons specialise in honeymoons to many worldwide destinations.

Romantic Honeymoon Destination on St Lucia

If a Romantic Honeymoon Destination is needed, then look no further than the Ladera Resort high in the hills between the Twin Pitons on St Lucia.
The Ladera Resort sitting in the hills about 1000 feet above the Caribbean Sea right between the Twin Pitons would make an ideal romantic honeymoon destination. A romantic luxury vacation getaway, this small luxury resort would also be a great place for a surprise and very romantic birthday idea for a couple who think they have no secrets from each other!!
A Romantic St Lucia vacation requires something a little different and the Ladera Resort can certainly supply this in spades. Its position is obviously a huge plus, and there isn’t one guest who doesn’t talk incessantly about the unbelievable views from the rooms, and the fact that the resort faces west means the sunsets and the twin Pitons together make an unsurpassed unforgettable view.
There are six villa suites and 26 suites with either a private plunge pool or villa pool, with the two bedroom hilltop, Dream Villa being top of the range with its own heated pool, and that would just make for the ultimate accommodation and the total romantic honeymoon destination.
Another frequent comment is about the fact that the rooms have only three walls at the Ladera Resort. What this means is you have a sleeping experience that makes you feel as if you are sleeping outside, although you do have a mosquito net, which in itself is romantic, a sort of ‘Out of Africa’ feeling, being at one with nature. The creature of the night do tend to invade the room, and the tree frogs can be very noisy, but all of this pales into insignificance when you see the views when you wake up and it could make a sentimentalist a bit tearful they just so out of this world.
A good romantic hotel becomes a great romantic hotel if the accommodation is right, and there is obviously no question here, although the rooms aren’t sumptious they are spectacular. The food is not only spectacular but also sumptious in Dasheene, Ladera Resort’s award winning restaurant. It has a St Lucia wide reputation not only for its food but also the panoramic view. One piece of advice is to take the all inclusive package, firstly because it will save you a ton of money, secondly because it frees you up to drink what you want, and thirdly because it makes sense to be able to eat at the best restaurant on St Lucia and not go out and find something inferior and then pay through the nose for it.
By the way the daily menu consists of locally caught fresh fish, and local grown organically fresh picked produce.
Whilst the Ladera Resort has been looked upon as a Caribbean Luxury Resort, ideal for a romantic birthday idea, or a romantic honeymoon, can you think of anywhere more spectacular to tie the knot. Imagine getting married outside on a terrace overlooking the Twin Pitons, with the glistening Caribbean far below. This could be the most perfect romantic wedding destination as well and the Ladera Resort will coordinate and arrange everything.
Check out this small luxury resort on St Lucia, it could be the romantic hotel, the luxury Caribbean resort you have been searching for.
