Budget Honeymoon Ideas

So your wedding plans are just about finalized when you come to the sinking realization that you definitely do not have enough left in the coffers to book that dream honeymoon to Hawaii. Bummer! But don’t give up hope yet. While two weeks on a tropical island may not be in the realm of possibility, that does not mean that you can’t enjoy a little special time alone after your wedding. These ideas for budget honeymoons will help you to plan a post-wedding vacation that is both romantic and affordable.

Whether you overspent on all of the wedding details from the flowers (darn out-of-season tulips flown in from Holland!) to the bridesmaid gifts (did you really have to buy your bridesmaid gifts at Tiffany, or could you find the same silver bracelets for less somewhere else?) or had a tight budget from the start, it can be really easy to realize that you are short on cash for your honeymoon. Since it is the one part of the wedding which is relevant only to the bride and groom, it is the thing most likely to be sacrificed; after all, your guests have to be fed! But a honeymoon is not an extravagance or something which is expendable; it is the first chance that the bride and groom have to be alone together as husband and wife. You don’t have to do anything fancy, but do plan to spend at least a couple of days alone together before returning to the daily grind.

If you are the outdoorsy types, plan a camping honeymoon. Picture it: just the two of you, alone in the woods. Hiking, bird watching, making s’mores around the campfire, and snuggling up in a two person sleeping bag pretty romantic, right? Then add in no tv, no cell phones, no computers, just the newlyweds without any electronic interruptions, and you can see why camping could make a wonderful inexpensive honeymoon, as long as you are both into it.

This may sound like an odd idea for a honeymoon, but what about borrowing a friend’s house? If you have ever house-sat for anyone, you know that there is something about staying in a nice home that does not belong to you which really feels like a true vacation. Obviously, your friend would have to be willing to stay somewhere else for a few days to make this idea work. Maybe you have an aunt whose house has a beautiful pool or a friend who lives out in the country; these could be great honeymoon spots. Bring in plenty of good food and wine for romantic candlelit dinners, rent your favorite old movies, and well, do what honeymooners do. It would be a nice break before returning to reality after your wedding.

Couples who have a little bit of money to spend can think a bit further afield. You could have a budget-friendly honeymoon by spending a few nights at a cozy bed and breakfast. Or take a train ride to a nearby big city. You can find affordable rooms in decent hotels online, and even discount tickets to shows and events. Many cities also have lots of free activities to enjoy, like concerts in city parks, art museums (not all museums are free, but at least most galleries are), and even just people watching. With a little creativity, you will find that you can stretch your honeymoon dollars quite far.

So you and your beloved are planning on tying the knot. The plans for your dream wedding have been made, the location booked, the reception with food and music is ready to go, and all the invitations have been sent out. What about the honeymoon? Sometimes planning this little detail gets lost in the wedding wash and before you know it the wedding is upon you and you haven’t even started looking for that romantic getaway destination.

Fortunately the best honeymoon locations are easier to find then you may think. From places close to home to far off exotic destinations where you decide to go will depend what you and your spouse want out of your post wedding vacation. If you are still in the early decision stage here are some ideas for consideration.

5 Start Hotels:

Most large cities have 5 start hotels that will be more than happy to cater to any newlywed couple. With larger rooms then the average hotel the staff at a 5 star hotel will provide the type of service honeymooners are expecting. They will accommodate your every whim quickly and efficiently. Romantic room service dinners, concierge services for a night on the town, it can all be had at a 5 star hotel.

The Beach:

Beach honeymoons are probably the most popular choice for most newlyweds. Whether it’s a beach close to home or an exotic tropical island it’s hard to go wrong when planning a honeymoon at the beach.

Romantic Cruise:

This is another popular choice with many couples and can be a combination beach and 5 star traveling hotel honeymoon. Traveling by cruise ship gives you the opportunity to see several ports of call and participate in a variety of different excursions at each stop. Or you can just stay on board and enjoy the peace of a nearly empty ship and all it has to offer.

Winter Honeymoon:

While a little different then more traditional choices a winter honeymoon can be a most memorable experience. Spending your time in the beauty of the snow covered mountains, skiing, snowboarding by day, snuggling up next to a roaring fire at night, it can be a truly romantic destination.

Honeymoon in Europe:

It is really hard to beat the romance of a trip to the “old country”. The history, culture and charm of a trip to Europe will provide a level of romantic enchantment that cannot be found anywhere else. The romance of France, the magnificence of Italy, the pomp of England, or the passion of Spain spending your honeymoon in Europe is an experience you won’t soon forget.

Honeymoon Weekend:

Maybe you don’t have a lot time or budget for your post wedding plans. You can still plan a quick weekend getaway to a nearby city or place that you and your spouse have always loved going to.

The best honeymoon locations are the ones that allow newlyweds the opportunity to spend time alone together after the stress of the wedding. Whatever destination you choose you are sure to have a trip filled with memories.

A Honeymoon Cruise Vacation

January 22, 2011 by

A honeymoon is a much talked about subject when a couple announce their engagement to their family and friends. One question that will be asked over and over is where are you going for your honeymoon?

Cruising is becoming more and more popular and this has been extended to the honeymoon cruise vacation market by the cruise lines. They offer some fantastic honeymoon cruise packages. You only have to surf the net to discover some great deals, but be careful and do a thorough research of all the available honeymoon cruise offers.

When considering a honeymoon cruise vacation against staying in a luxury vacation resort compare the prices per night for each of them. They may be very similar but a cruise may be more expensive overall due to the fact that all meals may be included in the honeymoon cruise package price.

One of the advantages of going on a honeymoon cruise vacation is that you will, if you select the right cruise, visit a number of exotic and romantic locations. Imagine waking up to the view of a tropical island, rising and having breakfast served on your own private balcony then  spending a lazy morning watching the activity on shore or lazing by the pool whilst everyone has gone ashore.

Honeymoon cruise packages come in many different forms. Some cruise lines offer a complete honeymoon cruise vacation package which may include a bottle of champagne, a silver photo frame and room service. Generally the more that is offered within the package the more expensive it will be, but it will be worth it. Other cruise companies, if you tell them you are planning a honeymoon cruise, will most probably arrange a tailor made honeymoon cruise package to suit your wallet.  A travel agent that specialises in cruises should be able to help you if you decide to choose this route rather than going for a comprehensive honeymoon vacation cruise package.

One other thing to take into consideration is the type of ship you wish to cruise on. There are the large ships which take 2000 or more passengers and the smaller cruise ships where the number of passengers is much smaller. A higher quality of service is usually provided on these smaller cruise ships. Again if you mention that you are planning a honeymoon cruise vacation they will ensure that whilst you are on board you will be given top quality service. A smaller cruise ship, by its very nature will be more intimate and friendly and will probably attract a higher quality of passenger. However, if you want a busy honeymoon with plenty of nightlife then one of the larger cruise ships would be more suitable.

The smaller cruise ships will more often than not visit places that a large cruise ship cannot even consider and a honeymoon cruise package with one of these smaller cruise lines can offer some very attractive and romantic locations.

Whichever type of cruise ship you choose, if you want luxury, romantic and exotic locations then a honeymoon cruise vacation should be high on your list and you will certainly be envied by your friends and they will all want to come with you. That is another idea to consider? More later.

Choosing the Best Honeymoon Destination

July 16, 2010 by

For the newlywed couple their honeymoon should be the most second most memorable event of their new life together right after their wedding. And after all the craziness that a wedding involves picking the best honeymoon destination is very important. It is important to remember that this may well be the happy couples first real extended time away from their everyday life and should be a time of romance, relaxation and of course loads of fun. By choosing the right honeymoon destination they will be sure to remember this time of their lives together with fond memories. It does take some planning to find the best honeymoon destination because it requires a destination that combines the interests of both people. It makes no sense to plan a honeymoon that only appeals to one of the newlyweds. For instance, planning a honeymoon at an all inclusive golf resort may be lots of fun for the male half if he enjoys playing golf all day but it’s not very appealing to the bride to be if she doesn’t like to play golf and there’s not much else to do there. Take the likes and expectations of both people into consideration when making a possible list of destinations. One of the first things to take into consideration when trying to find the best honeymoon destination is what do the soon to be newlyweds enjoy doing together. Do they enjoy going snow skiing and the quiet solitude of the mountains in winter. If so consider a quiet mountain lodge with quick and easy access to the slopes of a major ski resort. On the other end of the climate spectrum are those who prefer the warmth of sun, sand, and the sea. Taking a tropical cruise with exotic ports of call or going to a tropical island for an extended stay can leave the couple feeling refreshed and relaxed, not to mention the amount of quality alone time they can enjoy. Another point to consider is the couples desire to visit a certain country or culture. Is there one particular place they have always talked about visiting? What better time then their honeymoon to make that dream come true. When looking at these types of honeymoon destinations be sure to look for packages that feature great accommodations as well as some sort of tour or guide service that will allow the couple the opportunity to visit and learn about that place they have always dreamed of going to. Does the couple enjoy being well taken care of or are they more of a pair of free spirits. Their personality will say a lot about what the best honeymoon destination for them may be. If they like to be pampered then a hotel or resort that prides itself on its guest services will be perfect for them. If they are more independent and don’t need all the pampering consider a more laid back destination that still provides quality services but gives the couple time and room to do their own thing. Remember that the honeymoon is about the couple and it is therefore important to choose a destination that offers an interesting getaway for both of the newlyweds. Their destination is the backdrop against which they start their married lives together and should create lasting memories. In the end choosing the best honeymoon destination is a personal choice that the soon to be married couple will agree will begin their marriage with class and style. The Top 10 Honeymoon Destinations In The World

July 7, 2010 by

Most young couples would say that the best honeymoon destination is a bed, your bed, next doors bed, a sun bed, any bed as that’s where you will spend most of the time. But you should make the effort to at least conduct your bed fest somewhere quite special. With this in mind, I have gathered together the top 10 honeymoon destinations in the world as populated by travel agents statistics. Most are obvious but some may surprise you. Hopefully, this will help you decide where you want to conduct your bed fest.

The Bahamas: If you like rock climbing, water skiing, wind surfing, wind sailing, kayaks, pedal boats and water sports set in a tropical paradise, this is it. Most people report feeling quite safe and of course the weather and beaches are quite special.

Barbados: This is a commercial destination and filled with a party atmosphere. Quite built up and busy so if you are party animals, this is the place for you. Barbados has great beaches, great weather and lots of bars and night clubs. If you want a relaxing tropical island this isn’t it.

St. Lucia: Here you have a relaxing tropical island with white sandy beaches, banana trees, a working cocoa plantation, waterfalls and more. It offers a lot of the things people look for in a paradise honeymoon. At Anse Chastanet in St. Lucia there is a reef right off the beach which is great for diving and snorkelling.  It’s pricey, but it is a truly gorgeous paradise.

Mauritius: Mauritius offers a lot of high-end resorts and is consequently quite expensive. There are all the usual water sports plus a relaxing environment. This is high end honeymooning though, so the service is great and the hotels are fantastic. Some of the towns are dated but that all adds to the ambience.

Sardinia: Is a great place to stay if you want to travel and see a bit of romantic Europe. Sicily and The Aeolian Islands are easy trips to take when in Sardinia. It is a truly romantic place and very relaxing with many old buildings and traditional activities. It’s very hot in Summer.

Paris: Obviously a romantic place for those that want to visit museums and some of the most famous landmarks in history. No beaches, no palm trees but lots of culture and art. You really need to go in Summer though as the weather isn’t great any other time.

Seychelles: Here again we have an exclusive place and expensive because of it. It’s a great place for nature lovers and for a relaxing honeymoon. Anse Victorin on Fregate is a fantastic beach, a beautiful little crescent of sand backed by coconut trees.

Venice: For me the most romantic of destinations with the most romantic hotels and masses of culture, history and the restaurants are the best. Now unlike Paris, Summer is not the best time to visit as the canals can smell a bit. Spring is the best time and is generally plenty warm enough.

New York: If you want a rollercoaster ride of a honeymoon, this is the place for you. Great popular landmarks and the best entertainment you will ever find. Take a map of Manhattan; As contrary to the movies portrayal, some modern cabbies don’t know their way around and some will take you the long way round by mistake (yeah right!).

Reykjavik: This is the joker of the pack and a bit of a surprise to me too. But it is in the top 10 honeymoon destinations in the world. It’s romantic and again it’s for people that like geological nature. Imagine standing with the one you love watching the Northern Lights and you must do the Golden Circle Tour and the Blue Lagoon. Don’t forget when packing that this is Iceland and there is no Summer.

Not all the top 10 honeymoon destinations in the world involve tropical islands. Obviously there are many places you can go for your honeymoon but I have only covered the top 10 honeymoon destinations in the world according to travel agents statistics. Most of the destinations have interesting places to visit and wonderful things to do, so you will probably want to venture from the bed and hotel bar occasionally. Wherever you go, I’m sure it will be fantastic, enjoy your bed fest.
